This year I will be giving up 3 things, but only 1 of them will be a real sacrifice. This is my first Lent giving up something difficult (not including when I gave up TV as a kid!).
1) Flavored and caloried beverages
Last Lent, I lost 15 lbs. just from drinking water instead of soda or juice. That's not much of a sacrifice if I'm doing it for vanity. :)
2) Bread, pasta, and most wheat (gluten) products
My skin is healthier when I don't eat wheat. And we all know I need as much help as I can get. Again, vanity. :)
3) Cursing and speaking ill of others
I have a potty mouth. I use curse words more for more than just emphasis and embellishment; half of the words out of my mouth are swears. It's not polite or respectful. This year, I'm going to try my darndest (see I'm starting already, and it's not even Lent!) to stop using those words. In addition, most of the time I'm speaking poorly of other people when I'm cursing. If I stop gossiping, backbiting, and criticizing I'll be less likely to use disrespectful language.
In conjunction with not using disrespectful language, I'm trying to be more organized and thoughtful. I tend to use more expletives when I feel stressed or rushed and my frustration is often taken out on other people, including my son. My whole day is spent rushing and stressing about things that would be under better control had I taken the time to organize and if I completed tasks more thoughtfully, instead of my usual way of procrastinating and haphazardly finishing projects/tasks. Taking the time to stay organized will not only lower my stress level, but also help my relationship with my family.
Good luck everyone, and enjoy Fat Tuesday!

Ana, did you really give up tv???
ReplyDeleteHello to you all. At first I thought this was kinda funny, so I said I would give up certain things just to humor my family. I said I would give up eating in the cafeteria at work and I would be nicer to people I don't like. Well, I have had a change of heart and I will be a little bit more serious about this.
ReplyDeleteHere are the things I am giving up or would like to change:
1. I am going to stop taking cigarette breaks at work. Yea!!!!
2. I am going to devote more time to chanting everyday (an additional 20 minutes)
3. I am going to really get my money's worth from having cable and utilize the exercise tv on demand everyday. (I won't just watch, I will exercise) lol.
4. Eat yogurt, fruit and veggies everyday
5. No more fried foods. ( I actually had baked fish last night, It was really good).
6. Have more patience with people.
7. Let people come over to my house for more then 1 hour and not get irriated with them.
8. To stop feeling guilty about the decisions, I have made.
9. Should have put this one at the top. I will drink at least 1 gallon of water everyday.
I hear the theme song from "Rocky" right now. I am PUMPED!!!!
